Rigging the Car

I needed a custom rig for the cartoon proportions of the car, so I created a setup that would enable animating the car much easier.

The car was created and shaded by Dylan Barela 

Animation 

I was lucky enough to get to animate the car for this. I used the rig I built before and animated the car along splines that I drew along the track. 

​

The smoke planes were then parented to the car rig, and everything was ready to render.

Building the Track

In addition to testing the toon shading, I was responsible for creating the track. This is the model with a PBR shader vs. with the toon shader applied.

Adding Smoke Planes

The smoke planes consisted of animated 2D gifs of smoke I found on Shutterstock.

I would set a frame range for when these would play and parent them to the rig of the car.
